DESCRIPTION
Security badges unlock access to many corporate facilities. Badges can be lost or stolen and a badge in the wrong hands creates a security risk. For that reason many security conscious companies have replaced badges with locks controlled by biometric data. The biometric data, whether fingerprint or hand scan, cannot be lost or stolen. Networking individual biometric access points builds a security network for an entire corporate campus.
The reliability of the dial-up telephone network makes the modem a natural choice for networking these biometric access points. High speed modems are used so that biometric data can be transferred between access points. The modems also are used to report any alarm conditions such as a lock failure or an unauthorized entrance.
Why Cermetek?
The Cermetek XE5690G embedded modem module incorporates several features key to the access control industry. The packaging of the XE5690G offers two advantages. The XE5690G is an extremely small modem, less than one inch square. It also fits in a standard 68-pin PLCC socket. The ability to socket the modem permits the manufacturer of the biometric equipment to offer the modem as an option. Smaller locations may elect to link the locks on the local area network or keep them as standalone units.
